Curcuma mutabilis   Skornickova, M. Sabu & Prasanth Kumar

Described from the open fields near Nilambur forests, Kerala state, India. Specific epithet “mutabilis” is of Latin origin and means changeable. Or highly variable. Refers to the peculiar high colour variability of flower parts (corolla lobes, labellum and lateral staminodes) as well as size of the plants. Similar to C. oligantha Trimen by inconspicious coma, shape, size and colour of the rhizome but differs by its bigger size and more robust habit, ovate-elliptical fertile bracts with rounded tip with dark brownish-violet patch which are adnated to each other by lower half, less exserted flowers, smaller labellum and lateral staminodes which doesn’t exceed much beyond dorsal corolla lobe and anther spurs pointing upwards.
